About the Modern Social Worker

Social Work is a profession that exists in almost every country and region in the world.  This blog will be geared to the promotion of this, the most noble and arguably the most complicated profession in existence.  Often guest bloggers will be contributing to the Modern Social Worker about their interests and practice areas within the profession.  The main goal of this blog is to show that social work is much more than the child welfare practice area that it is typically portrayed as, though it is an important component.  Social workers are employed in everything from prisons to schools, mental health facilities to micro-credit programs, community organizing to legislative work. If the work involves disenfranchised, oppressed and vulnerable populations, you can bet a social worker is involved...or at least should be. If you have an interest or a practice area that you want to share and you have graduated or will graduate from a social work program, let me know and I will give you the permissions to add to the site.  Also please visit the National Association of Social Workers website and the International Federation of Social Workers website to get full details of not only the profession here in the US but also globally.
Thank-you for visiting this site and please feel free to comment or inquire about being a guest contributor.
